Our heritage group has undertaken a project to develop heritage signage and catalogues areas of historical importance within our community.  We are various heritage groups both nationally and locally to ensure the future protection of our existing built heritage.

The heritage groups first project is to develop signage for of the most interesting historical aspects of Woodquay. These include

  1. The rock of galway –The county club – (stony shoreline)
  2. Alice Perrys Mills the first women in Ireland or Britain to receive a university degree in engineering – she went on to electrify galway city 1909
  3. Fishery and the Salmon weir
  4. Origins of the Name na Coirbe “The corrib opposite eileen house
  5. Steamers Quay: The steam ships from ashford to Woodquay
  6. The farmer market
  7. The history of the railway and where the metal ended up
