Woodquay is one of the oldest communities in Galway- the river use to flow through – where a boats docked at a wooden quay – most people made their livelihood from the water and it is said that the have Feet in the water. As one resident stated; ‘once you could walk you learned to row’.

Over the last number of years the community, like many others, went through a lot of change.  From this a new group of residents reorganize the residents committee, determined to enhance the best of our close knit city-centre community.  A new committee created four sub-groups, so committee members could develop particular projects within the community. The four groups are environment, heritage, reclaim and positive impact.
